ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY
The YMCA of Klamath Falls is a 501 C 3 not-for-profit organization. The Klamath YMCA was organized in 1947, and its headquarters for the first year was in a tin shack on the Balsiger Motors used car lot. The organization then moved to the National Guard Armory for three years.
In April 1950, the William H. Fluhrer estate made it possible for the YMCA to purchase the former Fluhrer’s Bakery building at 722 Pine Street.
In 1969, the YMCA broke ground at its current location on Alameda Avenue. The formal opening of the new facility took place in January 1971.
The Klamath YMCA evolved into The Klamath County Family YMCA. That name was used until January 2012 when a national rebranding of the YMCA of the USA brought about mandated sweeping changes in the look, voice, and message of YMCAs nationwide. We are now, The YMCA of Klamath Falls.
